SEO and sharing

What Maia does for search engines and social sharing, and what to set before you launch.

Before you launch

  1. Domain: set site in astro.config.mjs to your address. Canonical URLs, the sitemap, robots.txt and RSS use it.
  2. Title and description: set site.title and site.description. Include what you do and where, for example “Registered dietitian in Manchester and online”.
  3. Share image: replace public/share.png with your own 1200×630 image.
  4. Currency: set site.currency so program prices are understood.

What Maia does for you

  • A canonical URL, title and description on every page.
  • Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, so links look good when shared on WhatsApp, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Structured data that helps search engines understand your site:
    • your practice as a professional service, on every page
    • each program as a service with its price
    • each recipe as a Recipe, eligible for Google’s recipe results
    • each journal post as an article
    • the home page FAQ as an FAQ
  • A sitemap at /sitemap-index.xml and a robots.txt that points to it.
  • An RSS feed at /rss.xml.
  • Clean, accessible HTML: one h1 per page, real headings, labelled forms and image descriptions.
  • Fast pages. Speed affects ranking, and every Maia page type scores 99–100 on mobile PageSpeed.

After launch

Add your site to Google Search Console and submit https://yourname.com/sitemap-index.xml. If you see clients locally, also create a free Google Business Profile and link it to your site.

Recipe results need a photo. Once you replace the demo illustrations with your own food photography, test a recipe page with Google’s Rich Results Test.
