Common questions
Can I use Maia for a client?
Yes. One license covers one website, either your own or one you build for a client. Buy one license per site.
Can I remove the “Built with Maia” credit?
Yes. It’s in src/components/Footer.astro. We appreciate it if you keep it, but you don’t have to.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Everyday changes are made in site.config.ts, Markdown and YAML files, which are plain text. Changing the design needs basic HTML and CSS.
Can I sell programs or take payments on the site?
Maia links to wherever you take bookings and payments. Calendly, Cal.com, Acuity and Practice Better can all take payment when a client books. For digital products such as meal plans, link to a checkout from Lemon Squeezy, Gumroad or Stripe Payment Links.
Can I show my Instagram feed?
Maia deliberately doesn’t load Instagram’s embed scripts, because they add hundreds of kilobytes and would drop your PageSpeed score well below 100. Instead it links to your profile in the closing band, and the /links/ page gives your Instagram bio a fast home on your own domain.
Is it accessible?
Yes. Every page scores 100 for accessibility in Lighthouse: good contrast, keyboard navigation, labelled forms and image descriptions. Keep it that way by describing your photos in the alt and coverAlt fields.
Troubleshooting
npm install fails, or Astro says Node is too old
Maia needs Node.js 22.12 or newer. Check with node -v and install the current LTS version from nodejs.org.
The build stops with an error about a field
A program, recipe, post or list item is missing a required field, or has the wrong type. The message names the file and the field. Check the tables in Programs, Recipes and Journal.
“Could not find” an image
Image paths in Markdown are relative to the file. From a recipe in src/content/recipes/, an image in src/assets/art/ is ../../assets/art/name.jpg.
The forms don’t send
Check you’ve replaced YOUR-WEB3FORMS-KEY with your own key, in both contactForm and leadMagnet. See Forms and booking.
Something new doesn’t appear
Stop npm run dev with Ctrl+C and start it again, and check the file isn’t marked draft: true.

Your license includes six months of support. Email support@tortoizthemes.com with your order number, what you expected and what happened, and any error message.
We usually reply within one or two working days. Support covers setting up and using the theme and fixing bugs. For custom design or development, get in touch.
